Io e Gianluca adoriamo sederci sul divano guardando le serie televisive sul cibo, che siano piatti tipici o street food. L’appuntamento è fissato solitamente per il venerdì sera! Aveva colto la sua attenzione la puntata della serie trasmetta su Netflix dello street food di Singapore dove ha scoperto i putu piring, dolcetti preparati con farina di riso cotti a vapore.
Da quel giorno abbiamo preso nota che se fossimo andati a Singapore saremmo passati ad assaggiarli! Così è stato! La “seconda missione” del nostro viaggio è stata assaggiare i putu piring!
Haig Road Putu Piring prepara questi dolcetti dal 1985. I Putu piring sono piccole tortine di riso cotte al vapore, sembrano dei pasticcini e vengono cucinati con una garza di tessuto in un cono di acciaio. Li preparano mani abili con farina di riso e un ripieno di zucchero di palma puro. Vengono guarniti con cocco appena grattugiato e un pizzico di sale. Osservarne la preparazione è molto bello, in pochi minuti li assemblano e li servono caldi.
Oltre alla versione classica, negli anni, sono nate altre versioni tra cui alcune limitate, noi abbiamo avuto la fortuna di assaggiare la special edition con l’impasto Red Velvet ripieno di Nutella! Divino!
Abbiamo assaggiato anche la versione classica Gula Melaka Putu Piring e la versione con le gocce di cioccolato, Chocolate Putu Piring. Quando ci ricapitava l’occasione?!

Li abbiamo trovati squisiti in tutte le versioni provate! Un piccolo sogno soprattutto per Gianluca che ci teneva tanto ad assaggiarli, oggi posso dire: come dargli torto?! Gianluca è il piccolo viaggiatore di famiglia, 10 anni.
Ringraziamo Netflix per averci portato a Singapore a mangiare i putu piring! Nel 2019 questa bottega è stata inserita nella guida Michelin.

English version Putu Piring Singapore Netflix
Me and my son Gianluca love sitting on the sofa watching television series about food discovering typical dishes or street food. The appointment is usually set for Friday evening! The broadcast on Netflix about Singapore’s street food caught his attention.. he discovered putu piring, sweet preparation with steamed rice flour.
We took note that if we’ll go in Singapore we’ll stop there for tasting ! So it was! The “second mission” of our trip was to taste putu piring! Haig Road Putu Piring has been making these treats since 1985. Putu piring are small steamed rice cakes, they looks like pastries and are cooked with fabric gauze in a steel cone. They’re prepared by skilled hands, principal ingredients are: rice flour and a filling of pure palm sugar. They are garnished with freshly grated coconut and a pinch of salt. Watching the preparation is very nice, in a few minutes they assemble them and serve them hot.
In addition to the classic version, over the years, other versions have been created including some limited editions, we were lucky enough to taste the special edition with the Red Velvet dough filled with Nutella! Wow! We also tasted the classic version Gula Melaka Putu Piring and the version with chocolate chips.

We found them delicious in all the versions we tried! A little dream especially for Gianluca who wanted so much to taste them, today I can say: who can blame him?!
Gianluca is the younger traveler of our family, 10 years old. Thanks to Netflix for taking us to Singapore to eat putu piring! In 2019 this shop was included in the Michelin guide.
